Hard Conversations

A challenge for many people in leadership roles is to have conversations about difficult situations. Often sitting behind this is the absence of a skill set to address issues as they arise. Sometimes issues are only addressed when they have developed to a point when they can no longer be ignored and a major disagreement has erupted. To someone outside that situation, it often appears as though the issue has arisen out of nothing but for those in it, it’s as though it’s been going on forever. Managing workplace conflict has and always will be part of a leader’s work. What is especially challenging is when that the leader is the target of that behaviour.

At Mitchell Organisation Consulting we provide training in the process and skills required to have difficult conversations with employees. We show leaders how to have that conversation with a team member so that both can move on and work, respecting each other. Our focus is on building employees skills to nip things in the bud - giving people the confidence to have the conversation early, so that they can address the issues as they arise rather than letting things go, fester and ultimately explode. Think about how the leaders in your organisation handle these sorts of complex people problems. Are you confident that your leaders are able to satisfactorily resolve these people issues without negative consequences?
